In order to promote the communication between the biotech industries in Taiwan and Korea, the TRPMA and the Korea Business Center (Taipei) jointly organized the Taiwan and Korea Biotech Partnering Forum on December 4 at the TRPMA Southern Harbor Club.

Mr. Chih-Hong Yeh, Director of the TRPMA, and Mr. Seoung Jin Ha, Vice Director of the Gyeonggi-do Investment Department, opened the forum, followed by an introduction of the status quo of the biotech industry in Taiwan and Korea made respectively by Dr. Yong-Mun Choi of the Gyeonggi-do Bio-Center and Mr. Ching-Lung Hu of the BPIPO. The TRPMA alsoinvited Mr. Han-Yu Lee, the regulatory manager of the TTY, to brief the Korean companies on the regulations of drug review and approval in Taiwan.

The Korean delegation is formed by four biotech companies from Gyeonggi-do: Green Cross LabCell, Cellinbio, GL PharmTech and Eco Biotech. Their products include new drugs, cell therapies, medical devices, functional foods, cosmetics, etc. Nine Taiwanese companies attended this partnering forum.

This is the first partnering event for the biotech industries in Taiwan and Korea. The Korean delegation was impressed by Taiwanese companies’ R&D capacities. This event was informative and very successful, according to the participants of this event. The TRPMA plans to lead an industry delegation to visit Korea next year to promote bilateral cooperation.
