The MOHW is to hold the “National Conference on Drug Policies” in December, and is now requesting the pharmaceutical industry, the medical industry and the consumers to raise issues for discussion. Chang Hong-Jen, Vice Chairman of the TRPMA, reckoned that the National Conference’s conclusions will have an impact on the government’s approaches of pharmaceutical affairs. A pre-meeting was therefore held on November 14 to formulate the TRPMA’s stances.

Ms Carol Cheng, COO of the TRPMA, explained the MOHW’s timetable and analysed current issues. After discussions, the meeting reached a consensus and concluded three major issues to be delivered to the MOHW. They are: 1) Insufficient capacity of regulatory review has affected the new drug R&D in Taiwan; 2) An annual growth rate for new drugs should be set in the negotiation meeting of NHI Global Budget so as to protect the prices of new drugs developed in Taiwan; 3) The regulatory authorities should take a flexible approach to ensure the nation’s early access to new drugs and new medical devices developed in Taiwan.

Many members attended the pre-meeting of the National Conference on Drug Polices on November 14.
