The Genomics Research Center of the Academia Sinica, the Taiwan Association of Cell Therapy, the Society of Stem Cell Research, the Taiwan Society of Developmental Research, the Formosa Foundation Regenerative Medicine, and the TRPMA jointly organized the first International Symposium on Developmental Biology, Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine. Over 500 researchers attended this two-day event. Dr Chen Chien-Jen, Vice President of Taiwan, delivered a speech. He expressed that the regenerative medicine and the stem cell medicine are the future development trends of biotechnology. Researchers in Taiwan perform really well in these two fields. However, the link between the basic to applications should be established quickly so as to bring benefits to the public.

To share the industry’s experiences, the TRPMA organized a forum on the regulatory science and clinical trials of cell therapies. The forum was moderated by Gau Churn-Shiouh, the CEO of the CDE, and Dr Chang Hsun-Lang, the Research Director of the Medigen Biotech Corp. The panel includes CDE reviewers and industry representatives. They shared their experiences in the clinical trials of stem cells, immune cell therapies and CAR-T conducted in Taiwan and China. Ms Carol Cheng, the COO of the TRPMA, also presented the application of the blockchain technology in bio-medicine.

The event organizers also invited Prof Chien Chung-Liang, Dr Chen Yao-Chang, Dr Chang Hong-Jen to moderate a discussion section about the MOHW’s recent announcement of the regenerative medicine and cell therapy act.

The regenerative medicine and cell therapy develop at an amazing speed. This event gathered relevant research capacity in Taiwan and established a communication platform for the industry, the academia and the government. The TRPMA will continue promoting the research development and accelerate the industrialization and internationalization of researches in this field.
