The awards ceremony of the “Pharmaceutical Technology Research and Development Award” was held on December 25th, 2015 by the MOEA and the MOHW. The awards were given to 16 winners in three categories: pharmaceutical, medical devices and manufacturing technology.

Chiang Yu-Mei, the Director of the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA), expressed that Taiwan plays a leading role in the development of pharmaceutical technology. A sound and friendly environment for new drug R&D and emerging health technology will underpin the development of the industry. This Pharmaceutical Technology Research and Development Award aims to encourage the developers of new drugs and new technology in Taiwan to get involved in researches and go further.

Lu Cheng-Hua, the Vice Director of the Industrial Development Bureau of the MOEA, pointed out the potential of the biopharmaceutical industry in Taiwan. He said that there were 222 new products developed by 93 new drug developers in Taiwan and generated a total output of NT$280 billion last year. The award organizers received three times more applications this year than last year. It shows the Taiwanese government’s strategies for developing the bioeconomy industry are working.

With a view to promoting better treatments and better healthcare environment, the judge panel reviewed the applications of the awards based on the principles of breakthrough and innovation. The winners of this year’s awards are:
